Planned run of 20 miles on a beautiful Autumn morning. Cold out of the sun.
Set off to the right of the car park towards the Rossendale Way then out towards Hog Low Pike.
Ground pretty wet and boggy in places.
Got to the top of the first climb, about a mile into the run a minute ahead of Dave and Nick.
Waited for them and carried on.
Got to Hog Low Pike a couple of mins ahead of both, unintentional, this was just my comfortable running speed for todays run.
Followed the ridge of Musberry Heights to the chimney.
Felt great at this point.
45 mins into the run. Chatted with Nick and explained I would go out to Bull Hill and come back, they would see how they felt when they got there, either return, or go onto the Tower.
I checked that they both knew the way and off I went - limited time to run = run quicker!
No more stops.
Felt great all the way around Musburry Moor, following the Rossendale way to Tor Hill, turned right and headed for Alden Moor, flew round that valley and up to the trig on Bull Hill in 1 hr and 13 mins.
Turned around and headed home. Met Nick and Dave in Alden Moor.
Nick and Dave went out to the tower and back, probably 20 miles! Well done chaps!!
Kept the pace up all the way back to the car park - except the last climb that takes you to the car park, it's not too steep but goes on for ages. The moment you drop off the fells it starts climbing, probably for 1/2 a mile and after 2 hours running it really is a killer.
Watch says - 120 mins, Avg HR 149, Max HR 164, Cals 1492
Distance - approximately 15 miles.
Key sections of the run - Hog Low Pike Trig
Chimney at Musburry Heights
Musburry moor
Alden ratchers
Bull Hill Trig
Nick looking good
