Well what a few hectic, at times mind numbing at others emotional roller coaster weeks they were!
Work was mad the last couple of weeks, so running was virtually a no go.
The death of my mum in June was a sudden and very sad affair that required a lot of travelling and sorting out.
But I'm back.
No work now for 6 whole weeks
I'd still tried to keep in shape, but running wasn't really happening and I'd begin to wonder / worry if i'd really enjoy running again - well I have and I do!
I met Nick and Dave at Peel Park Pub on Tuesday afternoon, we chatted for a bit and set off.
The first 1.5 miles are nearly all up hill, I was expecting a tough run, but got to the top of the 'Coppice' quicker than I ever had previously! and ... felt OK.
So the run continued. It was a case of me running off, trotting back to them, running off again!
It wasn't easy, but it was great!
6 miles, 1100 ft of climbing in about 56 minutes - not too shabby
pm - Badminton for 60 minutes - still fast and furious!!

Hameldon again
After last weekends disastrous run / walk / run etc around and up Hameldon Sunday was the return.
Over the week I had brought the amount of training back up to normal.
Turbo Monday, badminton Tuesday and Thursday etc.
On Saturday C and I played my cousins at badminton.
They, male, both in their early 20s play county badminton.
In an hours badminton we managed a draw!
Only completing 2 full games!!
Soooo much quick, sharp running - absolutely knackered, but great run and good training!
Back to Hameldon.
Ran with Nick at 1.00pm.
Steady pace out to the radio station beyond Hameldon, before taking the route back.
A fair few climbs and falls.
After years of running around this area I found a new route up to the trig on Hameldon.
The run back was still steady, but I felt strong at all times.
Such a massive difference from last weekends run.
Around 10 miles in around 1hour and 20 mins.
Its good to be back.
Time to up the ante again.

Hameldon
I had that need to run last weekend.
The need not from fitness, not from a desire from my legs to run and run, but just a need to get out.
I decided to run around Hameldon Hill.
I set off not knowing exactly where, how far, just to run.
The first few miles of the route are always uphill.
During this run I was finding it particularly tough.
I'd tweeked my hamstring on Thursday and as I ran, it got tighter and tighter.
Whether this affected my running style or not I don't know, but two miles out I was sore. At four miles, my hip was painful.
I wasn't really aware of where I was until I came to the radio station on the moors.
At this point I turned around and headed home.
At six miles the pain was worse.
After eight miles, the pain was no worse, but I felt drained.
This is the first time I have felt that bad on a run for at least two years!
Tired, achey and in pain.
But ... I got through it.
Sunday I'm out to run part of the same route again, but intend to add a few more miles on, we'll see how we get on.

Body Weight Exercises
I've been talking to a number of people recently who go to their local gym. They pay an absolute fortune, spend 1/2 an hour there and think they've had a great workout. There really is no need to go to a gym. All you need is a little space and away you go as you see in the following video. Personally I swap the chins with another ab exercise, for no other reason than ... I can't do 30 chins!
You can, if feeling good always up the number of reps to 40 each etc or add extra exercises in.
They are tough and if you aren't used to these type of exercises start small - you will ache!
Try these 3 times a week.

Hameldon Hill not once, twice, but thrice!
Had a fantastic run on Saturday.
Needed a bit of time to think, so I decided to run the Hameldon Hill race route.
I've mentioned before that I've upped my miles and time on my feet recently.
The race route is 6 miles long and 1100ft of climbing.
I followed the route out making the climb up Hameldon feeling good.
The run from the trig was pacey but not too quick.
On reaching the style at the bottom, I decided to head off towards the 'golf ball' a weather station on the moors.
At the weather station I headed back towards Hameldon Hill.
The track was damp to say the least with all the rain, it was like running through a waterfall at times!
There is a great little climb there, not too long or too steep, but one where if you run hard you feel knackered at the top.
The route then takes you along the top of Hameldon Scouts.
View from Hameldon Scouts
Here there is a different route up Hameldon, however I was at this point in my own dream world and missed it. Quarter of a mile later I realised and ran uphill back to the correct route.
For the second time running up Hameldon to the trig point and followed the race route off.
After dropping off 'mole side' I turned off through the fields towards the disused quarries again heading towards Hameldon Scouts, but this time from a different direction.
For the third time I ran to the trig on Hameldon hill knowing this time I was heading home.
Hameldon Trig - very wet at the moment!
The last few miles were still relatively easy and I was feeling good.
Coming off through the 'Coppice' I passed a runner warming up.
"Been to the top?" he asked.
What a good feeling to reply with yes ... three times!
13 miles, 2000ft of climbing 2 hours 10 minutes
Cracking run!
